Evolation of the craft by Mr. Sardar Hussain
I was conferred National Awards for Making Wooden Block 1981. The business of blook making is not
evergreen. So we get work only in season. The screen printing worsely affected the business of block
making l so I tried give a new shape to my skill of block carving .I had the oppertunity to explore & Expand
this vacabulary during the Golden Ege Exibit in the festival of India 1985. I manufactured a round block
as well as a round wooden box and used that round block as a lid of that round box. In the same manner
I manufactured square bolck as well as square wooden box and used that squar block as lid of that mirror frames,
side tables and central tables etc. These all items are manufactured with the wooden carving which is a very
different craft. I used brass inlay with wodden carving So two crafts are displayed on a single item
and a new craft was develoed.
It is a very fine carving and I Provide the best quality of finisging to my items that is a reason my items as well as
my crafts have been appreciated too much. My work is a different kind that is why my items are
greatly appreciated by Indias as well as foreign vistors. My items got termendeous appreciation in forgien
countries as well. I have exhibited my crafts at sevral places in India and abroad by the Govt. Of india.
I was sent to Pakistan tow times and Maldives one time for SAARC Festival.
My itms were appreciated too much and were sold out very soon.
In this crafts I have trained near about 50 boys and in this training
Programme Dveloment Commissioner of Handicraft. R.K. Puram , New Delhi,
played a very significant role. It provided stipend to the trainees.
More that 50 trainees have been trained & several boys are still under trining .
I get order of boxes regulary & in this craft the trained boys get better wages than block making.
So new boys are also interested in learning this craft.
My two sons Faraz Aqeel and Arshad Kafeel are in same craft and have National awards in 1994 and 2000 Respectively.
